Analysis of My Own Front Cover

Before I made my front cover I first researched other college magazines to get an idea of what type of information I need to include and what kind of layouts I could use. I also used a questionnaire to find out what the students at college wanted to be featured in each issue and what would persuade them to read it. I started off by taking a series of pictures for my front cover. I chose to use a college student as my front cover as this will match the intended target audience. The image needed to be a mid shot or medium close up so I made sure I kept to this requirement. The background of the image is a brick wall as I felt this background was typical of a college magazine and allowed me space to place my subheadings. I also used the East Norfolk colour scheme of blue and orange so that it is specifically designed for this college and included the college logo in the bottom left hand corner of the cover. I then moved on to creating the subheadings that will go on my front cover. In order to do these I referred back to my questionnaire I had done earlier as reference to what the students wanted to see in the college magazine. I included things such as: fashion, sport, Xbox, jobs, college events, local bands and subject information. I also added a competition to win prizes and made the first issue free so that it will encourage college students to read the magazine. My intended target audience for the magazine is students as all of the information inside the magazine is for the benefit or entertainment of students within the college.
