The main image on the front cover is a band member from ‘My Chemical Romance’ which fills the whole page. There are also three other images down the bottom left hand side of the page which advertise the posters that come free with the magazine. The majority of these images are male which can tell us who the predominant gender is for this particular magazine. The magazine title is placed at the top left corner of the page so that it is clearly seen and will be instantly recognizable to people who buy NME on a regular basis. The main subheading is placed at the bottom of the page underneath the image and is in a larger font than the rest of the text so that people can clearly see what the main feature of the magazine is in that particular issue. The other subheadings are placed in the top right hand corner of the page so that they don’t cover up the main image but are still clearly seen by the reader. The price of the magazine is £2.30 and is placed at the top left corner of the magazine above the title and also at the bottom left corner above the barcode. The price of the magazine can give an idea as to who the target audience is and what social class they are as the price isn’t overly cheap but it is an affordable price. The colour scheme of the font cover is white, blue and red which can tell me how many colours I should use on my front cover.
In total there are 7 images on the contents page of the magazine. This will give me a rough idea on how many images I need to include on my contents page. All of these images are of men which can tell us who the predominant gender is who buys the magazine. This can be something I need to make clear on my contents page depending on which gender I am predominantly aiming my magazine at. It includes typical music magazine regulars such as a gig guide, reviews, fan mail and competitions which I will need to include on my contents page so that I follow a typical music magazine style.
The magazines feature article starts off with a two page spread of an image of the band that is featured in the article with a small piece of text above them explaining why they are featured in this issue. It also uses the headline ‘Kings of The Wild Frontier’ which can tell us they have a new ‘wild’ twist to their band. The next two pages is another two pages is another two page spread of an article that discusses the bands new look and their success, including quotes from the band members themselves and a rating across the bottom of the page out of ten on previous songs they have done. This will attract people who are fans of the band or who are interested in their style of music. There is also a small column of pictures which show the stages of ‘Gerard Way’s’ many different looks he has had over the past few years. Two other pictures are also on the page, one of a crowd at a gig which shows what type of people go to their gigs and listen to their music and another picture of the bands lead singer showing the reader his new red hair. The next page then continues the article and discusses the bands influences which will attract readers who are interested in knowing the bands history and who influenced their music the most. It also contains an image of the band together again showing the reader their new look.
Throughout the magazine there are many adverts featured, all in which are aiming for the same or similar intended target audience. Adverts such as JD the duffer of St. George, Converse and Blue Banana Fashion are all what they believe the intended target audience would wear. Adverts such as Vodafone, Shure Headphones and particular albums such as Beach House Teen Dream and Hurts are all what they believe the intended target audience would use and listen to. The magazine adverts are printed in the magazine however there are also flyers in the magazine so the advert are clearly seen within the magazine. Reviews and gig guides are featured as these are something that can be updated in each issue so the reader can keep updated with different reviews and gigs in each issue. All of these are things which I need to consider when it comes to creating my own magazine.
